::August 30, 2002 - BUILD
NOTES::
We have performed a major update to the AC2 Beta! Please read
on for details.
We regret to inform you that we had to do a
“character wipe”—that is, all characters were erased. This was due
to data incompatibilities created by bugfixes. It is our goal to
do as few wipes as possible on Beta
World Red. We only do them when absolutely
necessary.
The sad news out of the way, here are
significant changes/fixes:
- Many USB mouse problems should be fixed,
though mouselook may still have issues.
- Added new "Overall Graphics Quality"
setting to AC2Config. This allows you to easily select a good
preset for your graphics settings.
- AC2Config now scans your computer's
hardware and automatically recommends an appropriate graphics
quality level. If you've already customized your options and
would like to revert to a preset, just load up AC2Config and click
the "Detect" button.
- Modified Training Hall quest. You start
off with all 3 weapons already in your pack.
- “Cannot examine target” spam has been
removed. But hey, no-one noticed that anyways, right?
- Rat Smasher quest is functioning
correctly now.
- Changes Jailais and Slings to Cestas. The
Cesta Union 101 made us an offer we couldn't refuse...
- Mines can now be used by multiple
crafters at once.
- More Tumerok armor recipes.
- Vakentu Emerald can now be found again.
- Skills now can cost more than 1 point. As
much as 5 points in some cases. You now have to make actual
"choices" while training up your trees. You won't notice any
difference before level 15, but afterwards, it's a whole new
game...
- Fixed skills: Insidious Concoction, Imbue
Fire.
- Human and Tumerok diving looks better.
- Paragon skills now bar off-tree
specialist skills and vice versa.
- Lugian skill Weaken Resolve (and others)
no longer can reduce a player's or monster's health to 0, making
them invulnerable.
- Map notes and your place on map are more
accurate, and easier to navigate.
- Level 8 has the proper amount of XP
needed to level.
- Special sound when you successfully use a
powerful skill combination.
- Target Next/Previous/Closest Fellow
should work.
- Removed the "cancel" button from the
"Please wait..." dialogs, since it didn't do anything useful.
Most notable bugs/issues (we intend to fix
all of these soon):
- Some copies of the Training Halls are
very dark. We apologize for this-- you'll have to brighten your
screen, feel your way through, and use your radar as a guide.
- The Training Hall quest does not give
proper instructions in the panel: it tells you to do the step
you've just done. You need to: 1) Double-click the Ancestor Head;
2) Kill a Filcher; 3) Get the Orb from the Filcher; 4) Drag the
Orb from your backpack to the body of the Statue; 5) Leave through
the portal.
- Some quests, dungeons, and Vaults still
can not be completed.
- The locations given in the Obelisk Search
Quest are wrong. You can find the first obelisks by going through
each Ringway and looking around a bit for the next Obelisk, which
will be near the next Ringway portal. The last Amethyst Obelisk is
by the entrance to the nearest Vault: in the Arwic Outlands at
35.4N 4.2E; in the Esper Reaches at 26.6N 22.6W; in Lost Wish at
49.4N 22.4E. However, the Lost Wish Vault can not be completed.
- We still have some crashes on the client.
Turning your graphics settings all the way down/off may help avoid
these.
- Some skills do not work properly.
- Allegiance chat channel (using /a
command) still does not work.
- Monsters can still get stuck and become
easy kills.
- Not all issues with all supported
graphics cards, sound cards, or firewalls are resolved.
- Changing game resolution to something
your card does not support will cause a client crash.
- In some game resolutions, not all UI can
be clicked or seen.
- You cannot remap any of your keys! Not by
using the GUI anyway...
- When you log in, people near you often
won't be able to see or hear you until you run away for a minute
and come back.
- F1 help does not display on Windows98.
- The font in the Story Quests is wacky.
- Kingdom-granted skills say you need to
spend skill points on them when you don't; you need to be a
certain PK rating when you use the Kingdom shrine.
- You cannot drag recipes to the shortcut
bar.
- Effigy Orb looks stuck to your arm.
- When you do extra damage thanks to an
attack in a combo or on a vulnerable monster, the floating number
for the extra damage is stacked on top of the other damage number.
- Lugian Elementalist skill Hurricane
causes client crash and possible data corruption.
- To perform Lifestone Recall, you need to
be wielding a magic-casting "focus" (drum, scepter, etc),
otherwise your movement freezes for a minute and it fails.
